OpenAI intends to release tools to further customize ChatGPT

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said Thursday that the company will release tools to give users more control over a generative AI system, while optimizing models for both general and specific use cases.

Speaking to investors at the Morgan Stanley conference, Altman said the AI company will focus on building a platform that sells APIs to others and builds powerful applications, such as the ChatGPT intelligent chatbot.

Since its launch last November, the popularity of GBT Chat has skyrocketed, with more than 1 billion visits to the site in February, up from 616 million visits in January. January, according to Similarweb estimates.

OpenAI has launched a subscription service to ChatGBT, which allows users to get exclusive features for $20 per month.

The company, which is backed by US tech giant Microsoft, works with enterprise customers to train its models in specific areas, and has effectively reduced "hallucinations," incidents in which an artificial intelligence system gives an answer that is factually incorrect, according to Altman. Altmann, a veteran businessman and investor, said investors should value OpenAI as a company to achieve the goal of artificial general intelligence. He added that individual users should have more control over how the AI works. The company said last month that it was developing an upgrade for its chatbot so that users could customize it to address concerns about bias in artificial intelligence. "We'll be releasing more things soon that give users additional control over the system to make it behave this way or that," the company said.

Altmann acknowledges that an AI system cannot achieve 100 percent accuracy, and said he expects apps including AI doctors and AI lawyers to appear on users' phones soon.
